Bemotrizinol (BEMT) approved for use in U.S. sunscreens

Bemotrizinol is a sunscreen filter newly permitted for use in U.S. over-the-counter sunscreens — the first new sunscreen active on that list since the late 1990s. It provides UVA and UVB protection, holds up well in sunlight, and has low skin absorption.

More options for broad-spectrum protection. Bemotrizinol offers UVA and UVB coverage, good stability in sunlight, and low skin absorption — and we’ll be watching for new U.S. formulas as they become available.

Differin Epiduo Acne Gel

The FDA approved Differin Epiduo Acne Gel — adapalene 0.1% plus benzoyl peroxide 2.5% — for over-the-counter use in people 12 and older. The same fixed combination had been prescription-only.

Follow the Drug Facts label. Retinoid-plus-peroxide gels can dry and irritate, especially at first. This is not a cue for everyone with acne to start it.
